RAD FOM-40
The FOM-40 is a high speed synchronous fiber optic modem operating full or half duplex over Multi mode or Single mode fiber optic cable.
The FOM-40 converts the electrical signal into an optical signal using an infrared light emitting diode transmitter. At the opposite end, the optical signal is converted back into an electrical signal and amplified to the required level. It has 12 selectable data rates from 56 Kbps up to 1.544 Mbps (T1) and 2.048 Mbps (E1), at a range up to 20 Km. Automatic Gain Control (AGC) circuits are incorporated in order to accommodate various distances.
The modem uses a Phase Locked Loop (PLL) circuit to recover jitter-free data and clock from the optical signal. The FOM-40 features V.54 diagnostics to perform local analogue and digital loop backs, and remote digital loop back.
