The Telxon PTC-1800 combines mobile computing and voice communications in a single, rugged hand held device, eliminating the need for multiple communication tools. With the PTC-1800, workers no longer need to carry a data collection terminal, a wireless phone, pager and walkie-talkie because the PTC-1800 does it all.
With no external connectors, hinged pieces, doors or openings, the PTC-1800 is built for the toughest environments. Standard features include a simplified keypad, easy-to-read 1/8-VGA display, integrated bar code reader, IrDA port for wireless printing and a high capacity LiIon battery pack. And, to accommodate multi-tasking abilities typically enabled with multiple devices, the PTC-1800 allows users to toggle between multiple applications and phone calls without disconnecting the caller or losing data.
The PTC-1800 enables both voice and data communications over a wireless LAN and incorporates the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) recommended H.323 protocols for real-time multimedia teleconferencing. Analog voice is converted into digital voice packets and sent over the wireless LAN as data packets via TCP/IP.
Built on open standards, inter-operability is a key element of the PTC-1800. Using industry-standard protocols, the PTC-1800 acts as a wireless telephone, communicating in peer-to-peer mode across the wireless network to other PTC-1800 s and H.323 compliant devices. When coupled with an H.323 telephony gateway, the PTC-1800 links to a site's telephony switch to place and receive calls outside the wireless network.
Disruptive overhead paging can be replaced by using the PTC-1800 in Voice Alert (walkie-talkie) or text messaging modes. Both modes can communicate to a single user or a predefined group of users.
