The Symbol WaveNet Access 2458 operates as a full duplex radio by using both the 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz license-exempt bands. Using the 2.4 GHz band for downstream transmission and the 5.8 GHz band for upstream transmission provides a unique solution in high interference environments. Up to 2.4 Mbps throughput is available to each user. Central base stations can be scaled to support transmission rates from 2 to 30 Mbps. This system is designed for point-to-multipoint applications in the United States and selected international markets.

The Symbol WaveNet Access Series 2458 is a point-to-multipoint system that interconnects a large number of facilities in a relatively small area. In order to serve a larger geographic region and a larger number of facilities, multiple WaveNet Access systems are interconnected using point-to-point technology. Connection into the end user's local area network, or LAN, from the remote WaveNet Access terminal is accomplished through a standard Ethernet cable.
