The Hull Speed AMX-1 Asynchronous Multiplexer is a two-channel, character oriented, time division multiplexer which can be used to derive two asynchronous data channels from a single full-duplex, synchronous composite link.

The two sub-channels operate at matched speeds half of the composite link speed. All standard codes, with or without parity, are supported. Configuration parameters are strap selectable. Indicators for both power and sync are provided.

The AMX-1 is compatible with 7 or 8-bit asynchronous formats using either 1 or 2 stop bits, with or without parity. This makes the AMX compatible with most async devices. This flexibility allows terminals with different formats to share the same modem or multiplexer port.
